This year was my first year at Ridgeview and also my last year at Ridgeview. Although this was not my toughest year it was pretty hard getting used to all the new friends I made and meeting the new teachers. But I have had a warm welcome and I have gotten used to the new schedule and courses. We had 7 field trips the whole year. The first one was the UBC ropes course, That was were we climbed up a big ladder called the giants ladder. Our second field trip was the Aquarium, that’s were we learned about the sea animals. Our third field trip was a curling lessons, where we were crowned team Ridgeview. Our fourth field trip was going to the wheelchair curling and sledge hockey paralympic games. Our fifth field trip was going kayaking and hiking at Bowen island, we did piano keys and rode a ferry there. Our last field trip was the best it was playland, that’s where we rode on almost every ride possible. This year was awesome, it was one of the best years of my whole elementary experience.

The last few weeks have been pretty busy, there has been lots of work and we had a dance teacher come and teach us a dance.  we have had a fair amount of work on all subjects. In math we have started algebra as our new subject, it was kinda confusing at the begining but then it became much easy. We have had a few quizs and a bunch of worksheets but it was not that hard to complete. In L.A. we have started poetry, it has been okay but it has not been the best subject this year. We have done many diffrent types of poems like diamante, we also made a poem from a paragraph we picked out of a book of our choosing. We have made simile, and metaphors and couplets poems too. In socials we have started looking at ancient athens government so we have to make a persusive speech about an argument that was chosen for us.    The first week of February was a overall pretty decent week. We did all the normal subjects but we got some new projects too. We did new science experiments like pendulums and rolling soup cans. For those we had to write a hypothesis and all the other science stuff like variables and controls. We got some new art and french projects too. We got a project called the super athlete where we draw a picture of an athlete doing all these sports and we write french sentences around it. We also got an art project where you had to draw a realistic winter athlete from a magazine or picture using good techniques. Our most recent project was a booklet we got on the mascots called les mascotes. Right now we have to colour the cover and draw a picture of Quatchi doing something from one of the questions we wrote. On the sports sid our volleyball team played a great last match vs the Chartwell boys. We won 4 games out of 6 and all of them were pretty good games. Next monday we go to Rockridge to play in the Jamboriee to compete in the competition vs all the other schools on Monday. In math we did all the regular stuff ut we did start a new mathcast with new partners. We had to find tax and discount on a 560 dollar burton snowboard. We also continued working on our olympic project, my team is doing freestyle skiing . We our doing our movie right now, that means we finished text and links and pictures. We also finished one podcast and we gave a script to my friend to translate into Korean. We did a valentines letter bag for our kindergarten buddys with glitter and hearts and other crafts. Christmas Spirit

Today Friday04 December the whole school made christmas crackers. We went down to the kindergarden classroom to make the crackers. Me and my partner’s buddy Thomas made Christmas crackers with all sorts of candy in them.I think we made 7 or 8 of them. The Christmas crackers go to different schools for the children to have. We are sending some to Grandview Elementry, Queen Mary, the Covenant House, and the Union Gospal/Mission. We are also sending it to Harvest Project which is a North Shore Food Bank. After we finished making the crackers with our buddys we went outside to play in the playground.Me and my Buddy played tag with my friend and his buddy.

This week at school a lot of things happened. We got our total for the silent day money, we raised 3,000$ thats more than our goal for the year. We bought both of the water pumps and now were focusing on heath packs. I also got assigned three projects to finish over the weekend. One of them is an oral presentation, a slide show, and to finish my newspaper. We got our school graduate hoodies this week which is pretty cool. I hope it snows soon because its not fun if its just cold with no snow.

I Am Silent Day

Posted on November 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ethancri02  Tagged , ,

Today was our first I Am Silent Day, we had to be silent the whole day including our teachers. We also had to get pledges for every block we were silent. If we got over fifty we got a homework pass but that wasn’t the real reason we are doing silent day. The real reason we are doing this is to raise money for children who don’t have the right to say “NO”. It was pretty difficult to be silent the whole school day plus I did the whole morning before school. But I think I did well because I remained silent the whole day. I got 5 pledges for 6 blocks, one from both of my grandparents, one from my and dad and one from myself. Near the end of the day we watched videos from UNICEF on the children who don’t have rights. Most of them were doing hard labour or fighting in war, most of the kids under 5 years old were dying from diseases. After that we started writing letters to President Obama about rights of the child and how the US should join it. Today was pretty fun and exhausting trying to remain silent the whole entire school day. Overall I think silent day went good and should help a lot of kids around the world.

Aquarium Field trip

Posted on November 12th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ethancri02  Tagged , ,

Monday we went to the Vancouver Aquariumto study the animals that lived in captivity there. When we got there our group had time to explore the aquarium. I saw tons of awesome fish and some other cool animals, like otters, dolphins, the belugas, octopus, manta rays and many more. After exploring we had lunch at the arctic zone, after lunch we went to meet our guides for the tropic zone. When we got to the tropic zone the first thing she brought us to was two loud purple macaws. She talked about birds there and we saw a birds skeleton and skull. After we saw some piranhas then we saw huge fishes. We also talked about kamins which are like crocodiles and we saw how the scales looked. We also saw a anaconda, we learned that the snakes teeth are pointed inwards so the prey doesn’t escape. Next we moved on to bugs, I touched a cockroach and a stick bug, we also saw the shedding of a crab and a tarantula. Every session on the different animals had a item that was made out of them, and that you should never buy items like these. When we regrouped we talked about what we learned and if we enjoyed it, after we finished talking we had to wait a while in the rain for our public bus ride back, it was also very crammed in the bus. But we still made it back on time, so overall the field trip was pretty enjoyable for the most part and I also learned a lot about fish and other animals.

This week Friday November 6th

This week was not the most exicting week, it was mostly full of homework like my reading assignment. In my reading assignment I read a book named Vampire Mountain. It was all about creatures and vampires, after I finished I started to work. I made a Synopsis and a bunch of cards about the characters inside the book. The synopsis was really easy but the cards were harder. We also had to rate the book and make character quotes. The rating was really easy but I had a lot of challenge with the quotes. Last night when I was going to finish I forgot me book at school so I could not finish it. We also had math homework and L.A homework but I managed to finish that. Over the weekend we have a socials table to finish and a summary about Arachne and Athena. We also have tons of Math. So this week was full of homework and learning.

Aquatic Ape Theory

Posted on November 6th, 2009 in Uncategorized by ethancri02  Tagged , ,

I think that Elaine Morgan theory is correct. She has some reasons that make more sense than the ape theory. But the ape theory also has a lot of sense in the reasons. One of the reasons for aquatic ape is that we have subcutaneous fat which land mammals don’t have, only sea mammals have it. Also modern humans have limited hair but apes have lots and lots of hair. These reasons that I just told you make a lot of sense. Some of the ape theories that make sense are how apes body struction looks like us. But in the end I think Elaine Morgans theory is more scientific.
